Who leads the treatment in Marienbad

How medical supervision works
On arrival, every guest meets the spa physician. Based on a thorough initial examination, they make the diagnosis and draw up the individual treatment plan with the prescribed procedures. During the stay, the medical team monitors the effect and adjusts the plan as needed. At the end, a further examination follows, at which you receive a detailed summary of the results and recommendations for home.
Which specialisms are represented on site
- The physicians at the spa houses are specialists in internal medicine.
- Most hold a second specialist qualification, predominantly in physical and rehabilitation medicine — the field formerly known as physiatry, balneology and medical rehabilitation.
- Further specialisms on the team include diabetology and oncology, among others.
- All nursing staff have a vocational or higher-education qualification in nursing; all senior nurses hold a higher-education degree that also entitles them to practise within the EU.
- All of the operator’s houses have an on-call medical and nursing service.
Laboratory diagnostics on site
The spa houses offer a broad range of laboratory diagnostics, from issuing the request through the blood draw at the relevant house to discussing the findings and the recommendation that follows. For stays of seven nights or more, a basic laboratory examination is part of the programme.

- For the study on the effects of spa rehabilitation on physical performance, breathlessness, oximetry and spirometry in patients with complaints after COVID-19, the Marienbad spa houses received the 2021 Innovation Award of the European Spas Association in the Medical Spa Scientific Research category.
- From the OnkoFit-Spa project, carried out together with the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, the Institut lázeňství a balneologie and the Czech spa association, extended follow-up care for patients after oncological treatment was adopted into the standard programme.
- Since 2026, together with the Institut lázeňství a balneologie, the first clinical study of this kind in thirty years has been under way; it concerns urological and nephrological diagnoses and examines more than a hundred patients before and after the spa stay. The scientific guarantor is prim. MUDr. Ladislav Špišák, CSc.; results are not yet available.
