At some point, every frequent traveller has the experience: a flight is cancelled. A connection falls through. A carefully planned holiday, looked forward to for months, threatens to unravel. In those moments, you discover the true value of an attractive destination in the heart of the continent.

For guests from the German-speaking world, Austria, Switzerland, Poland or Hungary, the town is often reachable in the same time as some domestic destinations — and without motorway traffic jams.

The route by motorway
From Germany, the most direct route runs via the A93 motorway to Waidhaus, then through Roßhaupt and Bärnau into the Czech Republic. The Czech side is well-maintained: via the E50 and European routes, you reach Mariánské Lázně from the German border in roughly 30 minutes. The border town of Cheb — steeped in history — lies directly on the route and makes a pleasant stop.
From Prague, the fastest route to Mariánské Lázně runs via Plzeň on the D5 motorway — the most modern stretch of the Czech motorway network. The distance is roughly 170 km, with a driving time of about 2 hours.
From Brno, the most direct options run either via Prague or via Plzeň. Both routes take roughly the same time — around 2 hours 45 minutes.

The "Plan B" that becomes Plan A
Anyone who has watched an airline strike destroy a long-anticipated seaside holiday tends to look differently at destinations reachable by car or train. For many guests, Mariánské Lázně is exactly that kind of place — first the rescue of a holiday in jeopardy, then, on the second and third visit, the conscious first choice.
This isn't a compromise. It is simply the recognition that a holiday begins not at the airport but on the road — and that arriving calmly is itself part of the cure.
No jet lag, no time zone shift
Guests travelling from Central Europe to Mariánské Lázně cross no time zones. The body doesn't need to adjust to a different day-night rhythm. For a two-week cure stay — whose effectiveness depends on the regularity of treatments — this is a genuine medical advantage: the first and last days of the stay can be devoted fully to treatment rather than to acclimatisation.
In long-haul destinations, three to four days are lost to adjustment. In Mariánské Lázně, treatment begins on the day of arrival.
Historically in exactly the right place
Mariánské Lázně was not located here by accident. The town arose in the early 19th century at a place reachable for guests from across the German-speaking world — first by carriage, later by railway. Goethe, Chopin, Emperor Franz Joseph — they came not despite the location but because of it. The short journey from Vienna, Prague, Dresden and Munich was part of the concept from the very beginning.
That geographic logic still holds today. Mariánské Lázně sits in the same place — and the roads to it are faster and more comfortable than ever before.
Practical information for your journey
Navigation: The centre of Mariánské Lázně is in all common navigation apps. The address of the Ensana hotels: Masarykova 22/5, 353 01 Mariánské Lázně.
Czech motorway vignette: In the Czech Republic, an electronic vignette (eZnámka) is required for motorways and expressways. It can be purchased online at edalnice.cz — we recommend doing so before departure. Guests driving exclusively on lower-category roads can avoid it, but the motorway saves significant time.
